CBD Oil and the Skin by Camille Charlier
OUR NEWEST E-BOOK: CBD OIL AND THE SKIN
The secret to well-being, inside the body and out, is balance. In physiology it’s referred to as homeostasis — the tendency towards a relatively stable equilibrium between interdependent elements. Homeostasis is an active process, one that takes work. Any biological system is tightly regulated and requires constant adjustment to maintain. It’s a precarious tightrope act: When things wobble too far one way or another they topple and we’re faced with dysfunction and disease.
The skin is regulated by an elaborate homeostatic complex responsible for coordinating inflammation, tissue proliferation, sebum production, and more: the endocannabinoid system (ECS). Indeed, this network is known to act globally to modulate such parameters as pain sensation, memory, and fertility, but only recently have researchers identified the existence of a functional cutaneous ECS. The skin’s role of protecting the internal milieu from the outside world presents a remarkable challenge in balance.

ABOUT Camille Charlier
Camille is a clinical herbalist, artist, mole enthusiast, and literary sleuth. A recent graduate of the Eclectic School of Herbal Medicine’s Clinical Intensive Program, Camille aims to support marginalized people and populations confronting complex trauma. With a background in academia — a degree in biology from Reed College — Camille interweaves rigorous scientific research, plant medicine, queer theory, and an impish appreciation for encounters with the mystical, the inexplicable, and the absurd. When Camille isn’t jamming on trumpet and accordion, you’ll find them clowning, making comics, and reading Borges.
