Did you know there are two types of sunflower seed Did you know there are two types of sunflower seed oil? Whenever I see recipes with sunflower, I wonder which type is being used as I seldom see it being specified. 🌻 It’s important to know because they are different in therapeutics as well as shelf life. 🌻 If you purchase sunflower oil in the grocery store or health food store, it will most likely be the High Oleic acid sunflower oil as this oil is able to be used as a cooking oil. 🌻 Oleic acid is a monounsaturated fatty acid. This is my evening project. Moving to the farm in This is my evening project. Moving to the farm in the spring is always a bit of a long undertaking hence a delay in getting some new posts up. 💚 This is my blending studio and tonight I am devoted to getting it cleaned up and organized. 🌻 For those of you who are new to aromatic studies, we have an amazing 70 acre farm in VA where we grow aromatic and herbal plants and where will be holding aromatic distillation retreats and a few other retreats over the year. How important is the chemistry of essential oils? How important is the chemistry of essential oils? Over the years I’ve watched some aromatherapy schools place so much emphasis on the chemistry often negating what we know about the whole essential oil or even the aromatic plant from which it has been extracted from. 💚 For me personally, I often think that this emphasis is pulling us away from our deep and rich relationship with the essential oils themselves. 💚 And while I am well versed in essential oil chemistry I don’t tend to use it much when I am formulating an aromatic remedy. 🌻 Instead I rely on the energetics, the plants history or ethnobotany, the system affinities, and core therapeutic actions. And to be perfectly honest, although my relationship with each essential oil has grown over the years, I find myself returning to the original information I learned when I first studied aromatherapy 32+ years ago. 🌻 I’d love to hear about your relationship with the chemistry of essential oils.
