Ofeliya is a scientist, gardener, and a dedicated advocate for the power of plants. Her formal academic background is in chemistry and materials science, disciplines that trained her to approach nature through molecular structure, physicochemical interactions, and measurable effects. When asked why she chose this interdisciplinary professional path, her answer is consistent and unwavering: “Because I am curious.”
From an early age, she was drawn to the understanding that within the tangible world exist invisible yet fundamental elements that govern observable behavior. This awareness shaped her enduring interest in how molecular-level interactions give rise to form, function, and biological response. Her curiosity extended naturally toward the plant kingdom, raising deeper questions about pigmentation, growth, chemical signaling, and the interaction between plant-derived compounds and the human organism.
This intellectual drive guided her formal education toward physical chemistry, where she studied matter at a molecular and mechanistic level. In parallel, a deep appreciation for plants was cultivated from childhood under her mother’s guidance, forming a lasting interest in how botanical systems interface with human physiology.
Ofeliya is currently a senior scientist at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in Sofia, Bulgaria, where she works within a rigorous research environment grounded in analytical thinking and scientific methodology. She is also pursuing formal studies in Biotechnology of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants at the University of Sofia, further integrating academic plant science with applied research.
Her scientific training, combined with her growing focus on botanical therapeutics, led her toward the systematic study of aromatherapy. Valuing both traditional perspectives on the use of essential oils and evidence-informed applications, Ofeliya dedicated her work to understanding them through biochemical mechanisms, formulation principles, and safety parameters.
As part of her aromatic journey, she became certified through the School for Aromatic Studies, under the mentorship of Jade Shutes. With her guidance and support, Ofeliya founded FEL Aromatica — the first aromatherapy school in Bulgaria offering internationally recognized education and certification. The school was established with a clear mission: to provide structured, academically grounded aromatherapy training that aligns with international professional standards. As an educator and practitioner, Ofeliya is deeply committed to raising the level of professional competence within the aromatherapy field. She actively encourages her students to pursue formal, internationally recognized studies and to approach aromatherapy as a serious professional discipline rather than a casual or commercial practice. She firmly believes that robust education, scientific literacy, and ethical responsibility are essential for the sustainable development and credibility of aromatherapy in Bulgaria and beyond.
